Is 500W PSU Enough For GTX 1050 Ti? (Check Here!)

The GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is an excellent budget-end graphics card for those users who wants to build a budget-end PC system. But beginner PC builders get confused about how many PSU watts they need for a PC build with 1050 Ti GPU.

To determine how many PSU watts you need for a GTX 1050 Ti-based PC build, you have to calculate the other PC components you will pair with a 1050 Ti graphics card.

How Many PSU watts Do You Need For 1050 Ti?

According to the specifications, the GTX 1050 Ti GPU consumes 75-watt power at maximum load, and 300 watts Power supply is recomended for GTX 1050 Ti.

But, it has been seen that if we estimate our overall system’s power wattage by just checking the GPU specifications, then sometimes it can go wrong, and we may end up buying the wrong Power Supply with higher or lower wattage.

500 watts Power Supply is not needed for GTX 1050 Ti GPU if you pair this GPU with all the budget end PC components. 

According to our research-

The GTX 1050 GPU with budget-end CPUs and all budget-level PC components need a Power Supply between 350W to 400W. Most of the time, the 400W Power Supply would be sufficient for a 1050 Ti-based PC build.

The GTX 1050 Ti GPU, with mid-tier CPUs and all mid-range components, needs a Power Supply between 400W to 500W.

The GTX 1050 Ti GPU, with the top-tier CPUs and all high-level PC components, needs a Power Supply between 550W to 600W.

Because of this diversity, it is important to estimate the power wattage of all the PC components that we will pair with this GTX 1050 Ti GPU and then estimate the required power wattage.

For your convenience, I make some lists about what PSU watts you need when you pair the GTX 1050 Ti GPU with high-end PC components, Mid- Range PC components, and budget-end PC components.

But, before that, you have to learn what PC components consume how many PSU watts, which is why I am sharing an image below.

If we pair the GTX 1550 Ti graphics card will all the budget end PC components, then the estimated power consumptions would be like this-

You can see in the above table that if we pair the 1050 Ti GPU with the budget-end Intel CPUs and other budget-level PC components, then our estimated power consumption would be around 321 watts. The 400 watts Power Supply would be great in this kind of scenario. It is a good idea to add extra watts in case of any miscalculation.

The scenarios will change when we pair the GTX 1050 Ti GPU with any budget-end Ryzen CPUs. For example, when we pair the 1050 ti with the budget end Ryzen CPU, overall power consumption will go up to 291 watts, and in this kind of scenario, the 350 watts Power Supply would be sufficient.

GTX 1050 Ti Pairing with Mid-Tier PC Components

It is unlikely that anyone will pair the 1050 Ti GPU with all mid-tier components instead of pairing it with the budget-end components.

Till if anybody pairs the GTX 1050 Ti GPU with mid-tier CPUs and other mid-level PC components, then the system’s power consumption would be like this-

If you can check in the above table that when we pair the GTX 1050 Ti with the mid-tier Intel CPUs and all other mid-level PC components, then the power consumptions go up to 429 watts, and in this scenario, 500 watts of Power Supply is mainly recommended. Here we add extra watts in case of any miscalculation.

Things will change when we pair the GTX 1050 Ti with mid-tier Ryzen CPUs, the overall system’s power consumptions go up to 353 watts, and in this kind of scenario, we need to pick at least a 400 watts Power Supply.

GTX 1050 Ti with the High- End PC Components

It is uncommon that anyone is pairing a budget 1080 Ti GPU with top-tier CPUs and high-end PC components. If anyone does this, then the overall system’s power consumption would be like this-

If anyone pairs the 1050 Ti graphics card with the top-tier Intel CPUs and all the high-end components, then their overall power consumption would be around 556 watts, and in this type of scenario, 600 watts Power Supply is recommended. Of course, we add a few extra watts in case of any miscalculation happens.

Things will change when anyone pairs the GTX 1050 Ti GPU with top-tier Ryzen CPUs and other high-end components. The overall power consumption would be around 473 watts, and in this type of scenario, the 550 watts Power supply is recomended.

When Do You Need More Watts?

You get a clear-cut idea in the above table of how many PSU watts you need when you pair the GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with budget-end, mid-level, and high-end components. But, sometimes, you require more PSU watts-

Overclocking

Many users overclock their CPU & GPU to get the maximum performance from their PCs. Overclocking is the practice of increasing the clock rate of the computer to exceed that certified by the manufacturer.

Overclocking increases the PC’s overall performance, but during overclocking, your system components consume more power than usual.

During overclocking motherboard consumes 20 watts to 50 watts more power, the RAM consumes 2 to 3 watts more power per stick, and the SSDs and PC fans consume 1 or 2 watts more.

So, if you are going to pair the GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with an overclockable CPU on an overclockable motherboard, then you need to pick a Power supply with 100 watts more after estimating the power requirement of all the PC components.

Future Upgrade

Suppose at the beginning, you build a budget-end PC with the GTX 1050 Ti GPU, and your overall system’s power consumption is around 321 watts, and you pick the 350 watts Power Supply.

Later, you come to a point where you have decided to upgrade some components (like- RAMs, CPU, hard drives, etc.) inside your system; at this point, you can’t upgrade your PC because you have very limited watts left.

So, having this future upgrade factor in mind, you need to pick a Power Supply with extra 100 watts.

If you are not going to overclock your components or not going to upgrade your PC components, then you won’t need the extra PSU wattage.
